Well, it’s time for another cleanse review, and this time we’re looking at the Wild Rose Herbal D-Tox.
Garden of Life makes it, which is a reputable brand.
But does that mean it’s effective?
Let’s see.
What Is the Wild Rose Cleanse? How Does It Work?
It’s an herbal detox program that claims to cleanse your liver, kidney, colon, and lymphatic system within 12 days.
It was formulated by Dr. Terry Willard – an expert herbalist from Canada – and has been used there for over 35 years.

One thing I like about this cleanse is that it provides a meal plan to follow.
This nods to the fact that they understand food and nutrition are key to any detox.
Many so-called “body detoxes” are nothing more than glorified laxatives.
So kudos to them on this.
They even have a wild rose cookbook online.
And it’s not really restrictive. You can still enjoy many of your favorite foods.
Unless of course, your favorites are sugar, wheat, alcohol, and dairy – then you might have a problem.
But honestly, if you’re committing to a cleanse, you should be prepared for some dietary changes.
The results are usually worth it in the end!
It comes in a kit with 4 different herbal formulas:
- 3 bottles of vegan capsules
- 1 50ml liquid herbal extract
You’re supposed to take a dose of each twice daily with breakfast and dinner.
Keep in mind you should only do this about twice a year…if you opt to try it at all.
Wild Rose Ingredients
Biliherb
Aka barberry, biliherb has been used in traditional medicine to treat kidney and bladder problems, bowel movement issues, and cramps to name a few.
It works by stimulating bile production in the liver as well as supporting/strengthening it. Plus, it’s great for digestion and flushing out harmful toxins.
Laxaherb
Laxaherb is a natural laxative that aids in relieving constipation. It’s believed to expel toxins and waste from the intestinal tract.

Cleansaherb
Helps remove toxins from the bloodstream, muscle tissue, and lymphatic system.
CL Herbal Extract
This ingredient cleans out your urinary tract.
You can see why they chose these ingredients. Each herb they use works on a different path of elimination.
This is an area I think the Wild Rose cleanse excels above others.
Though not the “best of the best,” it at least acknowledges that we have more elimination pathways than just bowel movements.
Others seem to think if they can make you poop that’s all that’s needed…
A Look at Wild Rose Marketing Claims
This body cleanse claims to improve digestion by helping you purge toxins through all your channels of elimination.
Think urine, BMs, sweat….that sorta thing.
It also claims to leave you with softer, more glowing skin.
The idea behind this is that our skin reflects the state of our “insides” so to speak.
So if you clean out the inside, the results should shine through to the outside.
With that in mind, I think this claim could prove true, but I wouldn’t do the cleanse if just “pretty skin” is your goal.
It’s also believed to boost weight loss since you’re not eating carby, unhealthy foods like sugar, flour, and alcohol.
How to Use It to Detox Your Body
Like I mentioned above, you’ll find 3 bottles of different herbal pills and 1 herbal liquid in your kit.
Don’t forget to take 2 tablets out of each bottle and 40 drops (2ml) of CL herbal extract twice daily with your breakfast and dinner.
If you have a sweet tooth like me, you may not like the herby, bitter taste of the liquid.
You can dilute it with water or eat fruit after taking the drops to remove the pungent taste from your mouth.
What to Eat During the Wild Rose Detox
So many people think detoxing means starving themselves or only eating celery.
That’s simply not true…thank goodness!
Check out some of the foods you’re allowed to eat while cleansing with Wild Rose:
- Proteins (Fish, beef, chicken, pork, lamb, eggs, etc)
- Whole grains (oatmeal, brown rice, millet, barley, etc)
- Fruits (All fruits minus tropical fruits like bananas, mangos, bitter orange, etc)
- Natural fruit juice without refined sugar.(Watch out for store brands that like to sneak in sugar additives. You’re better off making your own at home)
- All vegetables (Spinach, cabbage, kale, etc)
- Legumes (Beans, lentils, but I’d skip the soybeans, and limit this category in general)
- Beverages (2 cups of coffee per day – no creamer – herbal teas and green tea, unsweetened almond milk)
- Herbs and nuts
In addition to this food list, they tell you to drink lots of water throughout the day to help flush the bad stuff out.
A good rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight in ounces.

What Not to Eat
- Fermented foods because they contain yeast (so alcohol, wine, beer, vinegar, soy sauce, black tea tofu)
- Foods that contain yeast on their outer skin like grapes, raisins, oranges, dried fruits, and sugar.
- Tropical fruits because they are too sweet and starchy. So that means no bananas, pineapples, melons, mangoes, etc.
- Flour (bread, cookies, cakes, pasta, etc)
- Sugar and artificial juices
- Peanuts
- Dairy
What I Like (Pros)
- It’s fairly effective for cleansing your internal systems (kidney, liver, urinary tract, digestive and lymphatic)
- Easy to use
- Makes you feel more energetic
- Makes you feel healthier
- Should boost immunity too
- It will keep you motivated to continue eating healthy (partly because you’ll realize it’s not that hard, and partly because you’ll want to maintain the results)
What I Don’t Like (Cons)
- Meal prep can take a long time
- The liquid drops taste a little bitter (to be expected though – this isn’t a time you want to be consuming added sweeteners!)
- It’s not very effective for weight loss unless you stick to the meal plan for an extended period
- The meal plan can feel too restrictive to some
- Frequent bathroom breaks
Potential Side Effects
Keep in mind that this is an herbal cleanse. Any time herbs are involved, you can experience side effects.
Most of the time they are mild.
In fact, most people don’t report any at all
Still, if you’re super sensitive to certain herbs or you’ve had a bad experience while cleansing in the past, here are some of the most common reactions:
>>> Discomfort for the first few days
Because your body is still adjusting to the herbs. You should be fine by day 4.
>>> Mild headaches
Try to drink lots of water to prevent this.
>>> Tiredness
Did I mention detoxing takes a toll on your body?
Yes, it does. It will take some time for your body to adapt to the new diet and all these herbs, so expect to feel a bit lazy in the beginning.
>>> Cravings
If you’re the kind that loves junk food and sugar, get ready for some powerful cravings. The good news is that this will last only 2-3 days.
>>> Frequent bathroom breaks
Bottom line – it’ll make you poop a lot. Remember that laxaherb ingredient? Its job is to soften your stool and induce bowel movements.
Make sure you stay home for the first 3 days because you might be in the bathroom half the time.

Final Verdict: Do I Recommend the Wild Rose Cleanse?
Depends on what you’re expecting. And what you want to accomplish with detoxing.
Want to cleanse because you don’t seem as healthy as you used to be?
This probably isn’t going to give the lasting change you need.
Feel a little “backed up” and need to get your plumbing running again – as gently as possible?
I think the Wild Rose Detox would be a good fit.
Want to lose a lot of weight in just two weeks?
You might want to look elsewhere. You’ll probably only lose a few pounds with this cleanse.
And that’d be mostly water weight.
